  Public Works Department

Foreman Bruce Waldron (left) and Director of Public Works John Giroux (right)

Welcome to the Winslow Department of Public Works. Although a small department of only thirteen union members and two administrative staff, we provide residential refuse collection, recyclables drop-off service, sewer and storm drainage systems maintenance, vehicle and equipment repair, signal light operation, maintenance of streets, side-walks, culverts, and signage, as well as inter-department work requests.

John Giroux has served as Director since 1996. He also chairs the Inter-Department Safety Committee, which in 2006 proactively invited the Maine Department of Labor to review all of our legally required practices and programs. The review led to the successful updating of various programs. Bruce Waldron, Foreman (employed since 1971), has thorough experience and training in the operations which he supervises.

The municipality can be proud of the extent of training accumulated by every employee at the Department of Public Works. We have a talented crew, many of whom are fully capable of safely contributing to sizeable road or utility construction projects. Over the past decade the Department has accomplished completion of a $3.5M Road Improvement Bond Project, a $1.5M Locally Administered Project on behalf of the State of Maine (Reconstruction of Bay Street/Rt. 201, including improvements and amenities in the vicinity of historic Fort Halifax Park), replacement or trenchless rehabilitation of sewer mains on fifteen different streets, and construction of the new, and expanding, Winslow Industrial Park. We look forward to completion of a new 20,000s.f. Public Works/Recreation Garage in late 2007 or early 2008.

Email John Giroux at jgirouxpw@adelphia.net with any questions. Or, leave a message for us at 872-2777. If you have an emergency road or sewer issue after business hours, call the Winslow Police Department business line and they will promptly contact us.
